Through therapy, Dr. Agree will help you understand and overcome the internal obstacles that prevent you from enjoying a full and gratifying life. Therapy is also a place to discover and develop your untapped personal potential, awakening the dormant sense of vitality and excitement that you long to recapture.
Science cannot explain how and why effective therapy works. But it remains the only way to achieve lasting relief from emotional pain, as well as increased joy and resilience. Unlike like “quick fixes” and short-term remedies, long-term therapy improves the way your brain processes information so that you actually think and feel better.

History & assessment
Dr. Agree will spend two to four sessions learning about you, your background and personal history. Together, you will discuss your extended family, close relationships, and early memories. During this time, she will also informally assess your mentalization skills, attachment patterns, and other aspects of your psychological functioning, so as to structure therapy to meet your specific needs.
For those who wish to take a “deep dive” into their psychological experience, Dr. Agree offers a more comprehensive psychological assessment. This protocol involves a series (usually 3 or 4) of psychological tests that focus on how you define yourself, your experience of close relationships, your current conflicts, and the ways you tend to approach thoughts and feelings. This comprehensive assessment can accelerate therapy by quickly identifying underlying conflicts and defensive strategies.
Dr. Agree also offers stand-alone personality assessments for those who wish to gain a deeper understanding of their personality structure and function without engaging in therapy.
Following the assessment process, Dr. Agree will provide you with a written formulation. This is a brief document in which she outlines important themes involving your experience of yourself and others. The process is fluid and flexible, and is meant to ensure that you and Dr. Agree start off “on the same page,” and that you feel understood.

Dr. Agree believes your feelings and opinions about therapy are important to your success. She will periodically solicit your feedback regarding what seems to be working for you, or not, and encourages you to bring up these issues whenever they arise.
How long does therapy take?
Therapy with Dr. Agree has no pre-set number of sessions. The chronic difficulties you may experience in your relationships, within yourself and your emotional world, have deep roots that have been reinforced in various ways throughout your life. Noticeably improving your subjective experience means rerouting old brain patterns and developing greater internal stability and psychological structure.
The duration of your therapy is entirely up to you. It depends on factors such as, what you aim to achieve and how well you wish to understand yourself. These questions are not simple ones, and Dr. Agree is happy to discuss them with you at any time and help you decide what is best for you.
